The final scene in The Color Purple has always been especially significant to me, not only because it is a heartfelt reunion of family, but also because it brings everyone together for a meal made with love.  The table – in this case a picnic table – has always served as a symbol of congregation, a welcoming place where we celebrate each other and our rich culinary history. It’s a heartwarming experience that all of us can relate to.

This cookbook is a wonderful place to share special traditions with others and gather inspiration for your own kitchen.  I hope these recipes inspire you to make more time for one of life’s most fulfilling pleasures – enjoying quality time with friends and family over a home-cooked meal.
